Lighting

The amount of work that's done in the kitchen means that the right kitchen lighting design needs to be implemented.

The better the lighting in your kitchen, the better it will function. Added to that, good lighting makes a kitchen a much more pleasent environment to be in.

In small kitchens, lighting opens up the space and makes it seem deceptively large. In bigger kitchens, good lighting ensures that there are no dark areas where accidents can happen.

There are so many different lighting solutions for kitchens it can be difficult to know which will be best for your design. Every kitchen is different and the lighting that's implemented should be considered to suit a specific space.

Your main light source would traitionally have come from a bulb in the middle of your kitchen. In small kitchens this is still fine, but for larger spaces you should consider having a light at both ends of the room. A modern kitchen idea is to use spotlights that run from one end of the kitchen to the other. Aside from creating a much lighter space, they also look incredibly sleek as they're flush along your ceiling and not hanging down.

If you're looking to inject light into your kitchen then there are a number of ways to do this. Strip lights that run along the top of your cabinets are a great solution, as are under unit lights that you can make a feature of.

For supplementing the light you already have, LED lights are excellent in a kitchen. Not only are they small, they also create a good amount of light and will last for a long amount of time. Many contemporary kitchens use LEDs to compliment their existing light.
