If you want a warm and inviting family space then you'll want a table that gives this impression. The same applies if you're trying to create a minimalist environment for your kitchen.

You might also want to consider whether you want a kitchen table at all. The kitchen island is the new kid on the block and many new kitchen designs incorporate a large island in the middle of the room and no table at all. An island can be more funcitional and attractive in a kitchen, so is always worth consideration.
